Rev. Raymond Bonwell was born and raised on the Jersey Shore. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Raymond’s first career was 12 years in institutional investing and personal financial planning. Sensing a call to ministry, Raymond graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary and was ordained to oversee Princeton’s Continuing Education Program. After 5 ½ years, Raymond then served for 10 years at the Board of Pensions – one of the six national PCUSA agencies – ultimately serving as the corporate secretary.
Raymond has also served four pastorates. Raymond is familiar with the DNA of Arch Street and ministry in Center City through his service as the part-time interim pastor at Broad Street Ministry, and has a deep appreciation for multi-racial congregations from his part-time interim pastorate at Overbrook. Common themes of Raymond’s pastorates include a vibrant and engaging worship (informed by all the hymns of his late mother’s Baptist background), and robust, welcoming, and well-attended adult education / faith formation classes. Raymond’s broader service to the denomination includes serving extensively on committees in three presbyteries, as a synod trustee, and currently serves at-large on the General Assembly’s Mission Responsibility Through Investment committee.
