Jim Ballengee is a retired educator who served 42 years in schools in Delaware, California and Philadelphia, PA. He grew up as a member of a Presbyterian church outside the city and joined ASPC in the first class of Elders as the church began to grow again. He spends a lot of time volunteering with two of our Mission partners – Broad Street Ministry and St. James School – and is the Southwest Region Moderator for the Commission on Ministry (COM) of the Presbytery of Philadelphia. Angela Haynes, Elder, Class of 2021
Angela Haynes was raised in South Central ... Pennsylvania. Lancaster County to be exact. She fell in love with the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection, and now has been here for over 20 years. She accepted Jesus as her Savior at age 12, and rekindled their relationship in her late 20s. She’s currently embarked on a quest to become a Jesus Follower. [read more...]
Sarah Jenkins, Elder, Class of 2022
Sarah Jenkins is a native of the Philadelphia area and is thrilled to be back worshiping at ASPC and exploring new and exciting things that have grown up in Philadelphia over the past several years while she was living in South Africa. She has been a member of ASPC since 2012 and previously served as an Elder at ASPC from 2014 to 2016. She holds a B.S. in Global Health from Georgetown University and works as Director of HIV Prevention for the Clinton Health Access Initiative. Charlie Koerwer, Elder, Class of 2020
Charlie Koerwer has been a member of Arch Street Presbyterian since 2015 and is co-chair of the Outreach Team. After over 30 years with Cigna, he retired in 2013 and worked in operations for a non-profit in Camden for three years. Currently he volunteers with Broad Street Ministry, UrbanPromise International and recently has become certified by City of Philadelphia to teach ESL. [read more...]

Theos D. McKinney III is Assistant General Counsel for employment and labor law at Exelon, the nation's leading competitive energy provider. Exelon does business in 48 states, D.C., and Canada and employs approximately 34,000 people nationwide. Theos provides counsel on labor and employment law matters, including diversity and inclusion initiatives, to Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power, and Constellation. A member of Exelon Legal’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Theos was a participant in the Diversity Lab’s Spring 2018 Hackathon where his team was recognized for its Inclusion Imprint system to teach attorneys about inclusion and provide tools to practice it. Kim Pearson, Elder, Class of 2020
Kim Pearson teaches journalism and interactive multimedia at The College of New Jersey. She received Christ as her personal savior at the age of 19 and has been committed to understanding and heeding the call of the Holy Spirit in word and deed ever since. In her work, she seeks to tell stories that help us understand our connections to each other. In recent years, she has focused on developing teaching strategies for bringing people from underrepresented backgrounds into computing and interactive media. Lars Peterson, Elder, Class of 2021
Lars Peterson was raised Presbyterian in a suburban church outside of Trenton, NJ. He and his wife now live in South Philadelphia and chose to make Arch Street Presbyterian Church their religious home during the summer of 2014. Lars is particularly excited to serve as an elder at ASPC because he believes in the positive effects of building community and accepts his responsibility to participate in the process. David Pettit, Elder, Class of 2022
David Pettit began attending ASPC in 2015 and joined in 2017, after he and his wife, Lisa, escaped the New Jersey suburbs and moved to Philly. Prior to joining ASPC, David was an Elder, Deacon and Church School teacher at Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton, NJ. In his role as Elder, David led Mission & Outreach and Stewardship and Strategic Planning. David also chaired the board at The Crisis Ministry of Mercer County (now Arm & Arm), a ministry focused on serving our neighbors who are battling hunger, homelessness, and joblessness. As his career, he runs an Organizational Transformation consultancy, helping corporations change their cultures, systems, processes, and structures. [read more...]
